SMITH DIRECTOR OFFICE OF NUCLEAR SAFETY OFFICE OF ENVIRONMENT, HEALTH, SAFETY AND SECURITY SUBJECT: Final Approval for DOE-STD-1269-2021, Air Cleaning Systems in DOE Nuclear Facilities and DOE-HDBK-1169-2021, Handbook for Use with DOE-STD-1269-2021 This memorandum forwards the subject DOE Technical Standard (new) and Handbook (revised) which have been approved for publication and distribution. Both documents have been reviewed by all interested parties throughout the DOE where all essential comments have been appropriately resolved. In addition, the Office of Nuclear Safety (EHSS-30), who owns and maintains these documents, has reviewed and approved the documents. Both documents are nuclear air cleaning documents that specifically address the unique needs of DOE nuclear facilities. The new standard includes key requirement statements that were extracted from the 2003 version of the handbook. The revised handbook is updated to reflect current technology and retains key guidance information.
